For A Little While

And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. —1 Peter 5:10

Suffering is part of every believers' life (Mark 8:34). Some, if not many, of it will be heart-breaking. Even so, God promised that when a believer suffers for the sake of the gospel, he will be gracious and "restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you" (1 Peter 5:10). Therefore, you can be sure that even through the toughest time of your life, God is able to reach you out and cover you with his grace.

Suffering for the sake of Christ identifies us as the people who belong to him (Romans 8:17). Paul writes that believing in Christ includes suffering for his sake (Philippians 1:29). Genuine faith suffers.

The suffering that a believer will experience in this life will be of no comparison to the eternity that is to be revealed when Jesus Christ returns (Romans 8:18). That's the very reason why Paul calls dying as gain. He believes that if he dies, he will be with the One who saved him.

Any suffering that you feel now, if you are in Christ, it is only for "a little while". The completeness will come soon. Sooner than you think. Rest in his never-ending glory.
