Scripture:
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.” Genesis 2:24-25Observation:
God made man for his (God’s) glory. God gave man life so that he might take care and nourish his creation. We read in Gen. 2:7 “then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.” and in Gen. 2:15 “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.”“to work it and keep it”
Our God is a God that is at work. He is the author of work. He has been working ever since. When sin entered the world, that is when work became cursed and difficult.
“In the garden of Eden”
God has placed us where we are right now to “work” and “keep”, that is to be diligent and to excel for God’s glory. Not for men, or bosses or friends or family but for God’s glory alone. “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” Gen. 2:15
On Marriage
God authored marriage. His design of it is that it would be a glorious union of a man and a woman with the aim to fill the earth with the reflection of his image. God noticed first that man needs a helper, thus he says in Gen. 2:18 “Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.’” God is the center of marriage and should display the wonderful picture of the relationship between Jesus Christ and the church. As Jesus would die for the church, so does the husband would joyfully give his life for his wife.
