Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may
grow up into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. -1
Peter 2:2-3 ESV
One of the evidence that you have tasted God's goodness is the appetite for
His word. This then translates to a life longing for His Word, the Bible.
Before we were brought from death to life, the Bible is boring, none of the
things it says gives meaning and impact our lives. After we became a new
creation in receiving and believing in Jesus, there came the beauty of the
things we read.
As I observe my own life, it is "easy" to neglect the Bible as the primary
"need" of our souls. We can be easily preoccupied by hundreds of things and
neglect the reading and study of God's Word. This is true in my life. That is
why I plead to God for his supernatural work to enable me to have the appetite
for His Word. Apart from his grace, there will be no specific time allotted
for the reading and the study of His glorious message.
Long for this "pure spiritual milk". It is by consuming it that we find the
nourishment of our souls. The willful neglect of it on the other hand leads to
compromise. It is by it that we "grow up". Long for it if indeed you have
tasted that the Lord is good.
