The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He
was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not
know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to
all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become
children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor
of the will of man, but of God. -John 1:9-13
A few observations. Verse 9 says that the true light, which gives light to
everyone, was coming into the world, and verse 10 says that he was in the
world it was he was coming but he is now really here, so this true light is
addressed as a "he" so this talks about Jesus Christ as the True Light, and
then in verse 10 second half of that "...and the world was made through him"
so everything in this world and everything around us was made through him.
The world was created through this True Light, Jesus Christ, and the world did
not know him. Not only that, the world does not know him, but in verse 11 it
says here that he came to his own people, and his own people did not receive
him, but to all who did receive him and believe in his name, he gave the right
to become children of God.
So there are those who did not receive him, but there are also those who did
receive him and know him intimately, and these are the people who have been
given the right or privilege to become “children of god born not of blood, nor
of the will of flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” so the children of
God are born of God, and these are the people who truly received him. “Receive
him” meaning, those who receive Jesus Christ for who he truly is not an idea
or a made-up image of him but who truly receive him and believe in his name.
“His name” would tell us about his essence, who he truly is as he is displayed
in the Scriptures so if we are to be children of God we are to believe and
receive in Jesus Christ as he is portrayed in the Scriptures.
On the other hand, any “believing” or “knowing” him that is divorced from the
truth of Scriptures, that is, apart from the truth of Scriptures is not truly
believing him and those people will not be God's children because the only way
for people to be God's children is for them to believe and receive the person
of Christ. Salvation only comes through faith in Jesus Christ, trusting in who
he really is, what he has accomplished for us. He died on the cross two
thousand years ago as a propitiation for our sins in order to appease God's
wrath against the sins of those who would believe in him, and another thing is
that these children are born or born not of blood, so this is not the human
descent that we know, but these are the born of God.
The only way for people to be God's children is for them to believe and receive the person of Christ.
Father in heaven, thank you for showing to us this time the importance of
understanding you for who you truly are, not the made-up characters made-up
images in our heads but truly believing who you are as depicted in the
scriptures. Thank you for coming here as the True Light that sheds light in
our lives and brings life in our lives. We pray that as your children we would
respond in a way that would not dishonor your name but would glorify your
name. We are sorry for many times that we have disobeyed, we have profaned
your name through disobedience.May we come to know you for who you truly are
and that this may affect the way we live each and every day we thank you, In
Jesus name Amen.
